Membership FAQs
Who is Yugoblok for?
Yugoblok is for all who celebrate Yugoslavia’s legacy, cultivate its memory, and imagine its future possibilities. If you have an appreciation (dare we say, love) for Yugoslavia, Yugoblok is for you. If you want to connect with like minds (and hearts) around the world, Yugoblok is for you. If you want to help keep Yugoslavia’s memory alive—and use it to make the world a better place, Yugoblok is for you.
I’m not from the former Yugoslavia or have any ancestry from there, can I still join?
Absolutely, come on in. Yugoblok is a global community. One of our mottos is, “Yugophiles of all lands, unite! You have a world to win.” It doesn’t matter where you are, where you were born, who your parents are, or what country your passport belongs to. What matters is what’s in your heart and in your mind. Everyone is welcome at Yugoblok.
Why is there only one membership level?
We like to keep things simple. Membership levels get complicated (and managing them labor intensive). Having one free and one paid membership level allows for focusing on delivering the perks and benefits to you and avoid having to get administratively bogged down differentiating among price levels.
Besides, Yugoblok membership has three variations, in terms of frequency of payment: monthly; yearly, which enjoys 30% or 2 months discount; and lifetime, which never expires and only requires a single, one-time payment.
Where does my membership money go?
Your membership gets you access to the Yugoblok social network, forums, events, and content.
Your membership supports the creation of a growing collection of public-facing work that is freely accessible to all who visit.
Your membership also gets you access to exclusive goodies available only to members, including podcasts, newsletters, discounts, events, and more.
Why charge this much for membership?
The bulk of Yugoblok is free and accessible to all. Membership supports that work, enabling me to do what I do best: create.
Ten dollars a month is certainly an arbitrary number. It’s also simple, and it shows I value my work (what’s becoming my life’s work) and price it in a way that’s commensurate to my time. I’d rather stretch the benefits to provide the value than lower the price and discount the value I provide. I believe in not undervaluing myself and think you should, too. Better to charge more and deliver corresponding value (and then some). “It’s two lattes,” one member said.
Speaking of: there is an introductory, early-bird deal: 101 new members (I call them Vanguards) get 30 percent or more off the regular membership price (past donors and Patreon supporters get an additional 15% off). Either way, if you join at a yearly rate, you’ll get two months for free.
Can I cancel my membership?
Yes, absolutely. You cancel monthly and annual memberships at any time, no hard feelings or big to-dos.
Membership works kind of like a subscription. If you cancel a monthly membership, you can enjoy the benefits of membership until your original renewal date and your membership simply won’t renew that following month. Cancellation of an annual membership works similarly, on an annual basis. Lifetime memberships are, well, for life.
If you cancel because you feel you weren’t getting what you were seeking here, please let me know. I strive to improve continually and your feedback will be invaluable.
The Remembering Yugoslavia podcast is open to everyone.
Members also get access to ad-free episodes as well as extended and bonus episodes, opportunity to vote on future episode topics, and a shout-out on the show.
Events
Yugoblok events are open to all but only members enjoy free events.
Members can also access an archive of event recordings, enjoy a 30% discount on paid events, and host their own events.
