Mitja Velikonja, founder of graffitology, discusses political graffiti in the former Yugoslavia as a source of cultural memory of socialism and the former country.

About the Speaker
Mitja Velikonja is a Professor of Cultural Studies and Head of the Centre for Cultural and Religious Studies at University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Social Sciences. In addition to scores of articles, book chapters, and conference papers, he has authored the definitive book on one facet of Yugonostalgia, Titostalgia: A Study of Nostalgia for Josip Broz. He is also the author of RockʼnʼRetro: New Yugoslavism in Contemporary Slovenian Popular Music (Sophia, 2013) and Post-Socialist Political Graffiti in the Balkans and Central Europe (Routledge, 2020).
